Raindrop Therapy is a unique, deeply relaxing treatment that combines the therapeutic properties of pure essential oils with gentle massage techniques applied along the spine. Developed by D. Gary Young and inspired by the healing traditions of the Lakota people, Raindrop Therapy is based on the concept that essential oils dropped along the spine like raindrops can penetrate deeply into the body's tissues, supporting alignment, reducing inflammation, and promoting overall balance and wellbeing.

Originally developed for people, Raindrop Therapy has been thoughtfully adapted for animals, and is particularly well suited to horses and dogs, who respond beautifully to both the aromatic and physical elements of the treatment.

During a Raindrop Therapy session, a sequence of nine pure Young Living essential oils are applied in drops along the spine, from the base of the tail to the top of the back. Each oil is then gently worked into the tissues using light massage strokes called effleurage, which involves feather-light fingertip strokes that help the oils absorb and penetrate deeply. The session concludes with the application of warm towels to help the oils continue working and to deepen the relaxation response.

The entire process is calm and unhurried, allowing the animal to fully receive the benefits of each oil as it is applied. Most animals find Raindrop Therapy deeply soothing and will show visible signs of relaxation throughout the session.

Raindrop Therapy uses a sequence of eight carefully selected pure essential oils, each chosen for its specific therapeutic properties:

• Valor (special blend) — a grounding combination of oils that promotes courage, confidence, and structural alignment. Often referred to as the chiropractor in a bottle.
• Oregano — a powerful oil with strong antimicrobial and immune-supporting properties.
• Thyme — supports the immune system and has strong cleansing and purifying properties.
• Basil — helps relax muscles, relieve spasms, and support the nervous system.
• Wintergreen — warming and analgesic, particularly supportive for muscles, joints, and bones.
• Marjoram — soothes muscles, supports the cardiovascular system, and promotes relaxation.
• Cypress — supports circulation, the lymphatic system, and helps with fluid balance in the tissues.
• Peppermint — cooling and invigorating, helps drive the other oils deeper into the tissues and supports the respiratory system.

All oils used are 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. Every oil is carefully diluted according to the individual animal's weight, including horses, and a carrier oil is used during application to ensure safe, comfortable absorption and to protect the skin and coat.

 Raindrop Therapy works on multiple levels simultaneously, addressing physical, immune, and energetic wellbeing. Benefits can include:

Dogs with back tension, muscle soreness, arthritis, or those recovering from physical activity or injury respond very well to Raindrop Therapy. The gentle, non-invasive application makes it suitable even for dogs who are sensitive to touch, and the aromatic element of the session provides an additional layer of calming sensory experience. Note that oil selection and dilution are carefully considered for canine clients, as dogs have a more sensitive olfactory system than horses. 

Essential oils are powerful and not all oils are safe for all animals. Raindrop Therapy for animals should only be performed by a trained practitioner using therapeutic grade oils and appropriate protocols. Cat owners please note that Raindrop Therapy is not offered for cats, as many essential oils are contraindicated for feline use due to their unique physiology.
